Tree Health

Tree health diagnosis. Figure out what's wrong, fix what can be fixed.

A struggling tree has a story: drought stress, beetle infestation, root rot, soil compaction, or just poor pruning. Our certified arborist walks the property, examines the canopy and trunk, checks soil and roots, and writes a diagnosis with a treatment plan or a recommendation to remove. Invasive shot-hole borer (ISHB) and gold-spotted oak borer are active in San Diego, we know what to look for.

What do homeowners ask about Tree Health?

Can you save a tree with beetle damage?

Depends on the beetle and the stage. Early-stage invasive shot-hole borer in willow, sycamore, or box elder can sometimes be managed with systemic injection and cultural changes. Advanced ISHB with extensive galleries is usually terminal. Gold-spotted oak borer in mature oaks is harder, by the time symptoms show, damage is often too advanced. Early diagnosis is everything.

My tree's leaves look bad. Is it dying?

Not necessarily. San Diego trees often show heat and drought stress in late summer — curled leaves, yellowing, early drop. Deep watering and mulching usually turn it around. Real trouble looks different: branch dieback from the tips, canopy thinning, bark slipping. A short site visit tells you which category you're in.

What's deep-root fertilization?

Injecting a slow-release fertilizer and micronutrients 8 to 12 inches into the root zone under pressure. Unlike surface fertilizers, it reaches the active feeder roots and breaks up soil compaction in the process. Useful for declining urban trees, post-construction stress, and mature oaks in compacted lawns. Not a miracle cure, but a real tool.

Is there a chance my tree can't be saved?

Yes, and we'll tell you. If the root system is gone, the heartwood is hollow past the safety threshold, or the beetle damage is advanced, treatment money is wasted. The honest answer sometimes is 'remove and replant.' We'd rather lose a treatment sale than put you on a 3-year fertilization plan for a tree that's coming down in 18 months.

Homeowners who hired us for this

A eucalyptus limb came down on our fence during the first Santa Ana of the season. Branch Pro had a crew out within two hours, chipped and hauled everything, and the quote matched what they said on the phone. No surprise charges.

Melissa R. Emergency Tree Removal · Carlsbad

Needed Zone 1 compliance before our insurance renewal. They walked the property, flagged the dead oak branches and the overgrown chaparral, and had it all cleared in a day. Insurance signed off first look. Exactly what I was hoping for.

David K. Defensible Space Clearing · El Cajon

Three queen palms and a Mexican fan that hadn't been touched in years. Crew climbed the fans instead of using a lift, left everything clean, and explained exactly how often each species needs servicing. Fair price, no upsell.
